As you probably know, the 2008 Dining & Entertainment All Star contest came to a close this month. It was a well fought contest too, with The Fireplace Restaurant in Brookline fighting it out with Lilly’s Gourmet Pasta Express in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood literally to the final hour! It’s so great to see such good-spirited competitiveness among neighborhood businesses. This is what we really want the All Star contest to do! So far, so good.
CitySquares is delighted to announce the winners of the Dining & Entertainment All Star Contest.
In first place we have Lilly’s Gourmet Pasta Express! They are the official first place winner of the 2008 Dining & Entertainment All Stars! They racked up a record 103 votes from their customers. They were so actively engaged in the contest that when they answered their phone they’d say, “Thank you for calling Lilly’s Gourmet Pasta Express. Please be sure to vote for us on CitySquares.com! Can I take your order?” That’s just fantastic pride and spirit! A great example for other contestants. We’re proud to see Lilly’s win this summer’s contest! Congratulations Lilly’s!
Congratulations to all the winners, and to all the businesses who competed in this summer’s campaign! It was a success in so many ways.
We’d also like to announce our next All Star campaign, the Shopping All Star Contest! It starts in October and we’ll ask you, our community, to get out there and vote for your favorite shopping destinations. The contest will close at the end of the holiday season. We’ll announce the launch of the contest on the blog and in our newsletter, and once we do all you have to do to nominate a business as an All Star is just log on to CitySquares.com and either search for the business or browse to any retail business and just click on button. Amended 7/22/08: New version of the animation posted, with a new ending.
A couple of months ago we had an idea to put a bit of an animation together that demonstrates how we feel about traditional print media, specifically the phone book and local newspapers. We didn’t want it to be too serious or lengthy, so Jason, Amber, and myself put a storyboard together and found someone who could help us get it done. We’re really happy with the final result, and we hope you are too. It’s only a minute and a half long. Check it out!
These hip t-shirts, designed by students from the Joseph J Hurley and the McKinley public schools in Boston’s South End, are available in two styles and various sizes. They can be yours for the low price of $20 + shipping and handling. Your $20 goes to the CommuniTee Art Project. In September we intend to cut a large check to the South End’s McKinley and Joseph J. Hurley School art programs so they can buy supplies and materials for their students! Please, buy a T-shirt, represent the South End, and spread the word!
This Thursday, June 5th, at 5:30 CitySquares is having our first Official CommuniTee Art Project Party. As you probably already know, the CommuniTee Art Project (CAP) is about generating funds for public school art programs. We’re about to wrap up the first CAP for the South End and it’s Joseph J Hurley and McKinley Public Schools. The results have been fantastic, with dozens and dozens of students submitting art work and with hundreds of people voting for their favorite designs. We hope to do this again in other communities!
This Thursday at the CommuniTee party we’re unveiling the winning designs on tee shirts, which will also be for sale at the party and thereafter around town. The proceeds of the tee shirt sales will go to those schools and their art programs to help purchase art supplies. Also at the party, which will be emceed by WCVB’s Bianca de la Garza, we’re going to have a silent auction, of which proceeds go to the school art programs as well. There’s actually quite a bit of valuable items going up for auction too!
Due to some fantastic response from the local media and from the local community we’ve decided it’d be best to extend voting. Originally slated to end today, May 15th, voting will be extended through next week, ending on Friday May 23. If you haven’t done so already, please vote today! And be sure to tell your friends and family about the CommuniTee Art Project. Remember, the winning design will be printed on tee shirts that will be sold around town. The proceeds will be sent right back to where the campaign began - the Joseph J. Hurley and the McKinley public schools in the South End of Boston. The funds will be for art supplies and materials! So again, please, get voting.
Furthermore, the venue has been chosen and the date has been set! The CommuniTee Art Project Party will be held on the evening of Thursday, June 5th, starting at 5:30pm. Click here for the PDF version of the invitation.
When: June 5th, 2008 @ 5:30pm Where: Gallery XIV, 37 Thayer Street, in Boston’s South End. Featuring: Cocktails, bites from Red Fez, silent auction!
There is a suggested donation of $20 at the door that will go towards the CommuniTee Art Program and will also get you a CommuniTee shirt!
The evening also features an exclusive premier of world renowned artist Christopher Hauck’s latest collection.
Please RSVP to Caitlin Sullivan by email or by phone at 617-459-4921.
There’s about 24 hours left to vote for your favorite CommuniTee design! If you haven’t voted yet, please do. If you have voted, please tell your friends and family. Please, spread the word! Get voting!
Remember, the winning design gets printed on T shirts and sold throughout Boston, with proceeds going to the CommuniTee Art Program.
